Good Morning & Happy Monday on a beautiful, sunny late Winter day in Spokane. Can Spring be on its way???
Happy Birthday to friends Hwa & Kathy today. Two women who can brighten up anyone’s day, for sure! And here’s to former Soviet President Mikhall S. Gorbachev, who celebrates his 89th birthday today! Who can ever forget his policy of “Glasnost” (“Openness”) which led eventually to the end of the “Cold War” and the destruction of the Berlin Wall. His willingness to meet with President Reagan in Iceland in 1985, if memory serves me correctly, and negotiate steps to end the Cold War was something to see and a real encouragement to the world. Hopefully we’ll see more leaders like him (and President Reagan) in years to come…doing something for the good of the whole world! And Happy Birthday wishes also go to author John Irving, who is 78 today; to rock singer Jon Bon Jovi, who turns 58 today; to actor Daniel Craig of “Defiance” and “James Bond” movie fame, who is 52 today; and to one of my favorite singers/composers, Chris Martin of “Coldplay” fame, who turns 43 today. Here’s to all of you!
I’ll be attending a memorial service for my friend Larry’s wife, Nancy, today. She & Larry had a wonderful family together and did much to help Spokane be a better place to live. A couple of bright lights shining together, for sure! Prayers are lifted up for Larry, his children and extended family as they mourn the loss of Nancy and celebrate her life. Saying goodbye to loved ones is hard, but my prayer is that everyone comes to faith in the one who created us and has provided an opportunity for us to live with Him in eternity through the loving sacrifice of His Son Jesus. “What a friend we have in Jesus, all sins and griefs to bear…”
People For Effective Government (PEG) will be holding a terrific Public Forum on March 12th at 7:00 p.m. at the Eastern Washington University Center Building at the Spokane Riverpoint Campus, 668 Riverpoint Blvd.. It features Dr. Bob Lutz, Regional Health District Officer, who will speak on Public Health Policy and offer some thoughts on the current coronaviris scare. It should prove to be a fascinating presentation and discussion! Please come and bring guests and spread the word! For more info, go to www.pegnow.org.
Here is the word definition for the day:
Exigency (X-uh-jen-see): “An urgent need”…”A crisis that requires immediate action.”
Here are some thoughts for the day:
“By their own follies they perished.”
—Homer, “The Odyssey”
“There is nothing greater and better than this—when a husband and wife keep a household in oneness of mind, a great woe to their enemies and joy to their friends, and win high renown.”
—Homer, “The Odyssey”
Here’s to a great Monday and lots of love and good wishes always!
Press on,
Papa ‘a (Dad, Uncle Mark, etc.)
