Thoughts For The Day From Papa ‘a

Good Morning All & Happy Monday!  Only 23 shopping days until Christmas!

Does your family have any wacky traditions/ongoing jokes?  Well, ever since our son-in-law David joined our family there’s been an ongoing joke of passing off a bottle of Huckleberry Wine from his house to our house using various ingenious hiding locations.  Come to find out, as we were taking out our Christmas decorations and getting them set up again for this holiday season, lo and behold, we found the bottle of Huckleberry Wine in our tool box in the basement, of all places!  Pretty clever, David! Well, now its up to us to find an ingenious hiding place at his house.  And the tradition goes on…

Happy Birthday wishes to to Spokane friends Katie & Evan and Colorado friend Brian, who celebrate birthdays today!  Here’s to all of you!  And here’s to actress Cathy Lee Crosby of “That’s Incredible” T.V. fame, who is 75 today; and to T.V. journalist Stone Phillips, who turns 65 today!

Here is the word for the day:

Mephitic:  “Offensive smelling”…”harmful or poisonous”

I came across the 1969 Topps Football Card for New York Giant offensive lineman Darrell Dess yesterday.  He was born in 1935 in New Castle, Pennsylvania and played high school football for Union Area High School there and then went on to play college football at North Carolina State.  He was a big fellow at 6’5″, 248 lbs..  He was picked in the 11th round of the 1958 NFl draft, making him one of the oldest surviving NFL players.  He was selected to play in the 1962 & 1963 NFL Pro-Bowls while a New York Giant.  He was part of the offensive line for the Giants who protected NFL quarterback great Frank Gifford of “Monday Night Football” T.V. fame…There wasn’t much about Darrell on the internet, so if any of you know something more about him, please let me know!  Here’s to Darrell Dess & the New York Giant teams of the 1960s!

Here are some thoughts for the day:

“What in the world are we going to do?

Look at what everybody’s going through

What kind of worl do you want it to be?

Am I the future or the history?

“Cause everyone hurts

Everyone cries

Everyone tells each other all kinds of lies

Everyone falls

Everybody dreams and doubts

Got to keep dancing when the lights go out

How in the world am I going to see?

You as my brother

…Not my enemy?

—Chris Martin & Coldplay, “Everyday Life”

“Those He saves are His delight, Christ will hold me fast;

Precious in His Holy sight, He will hold me fast.

He’ll not let my soul be lost; His Promises shall last;

Bought by Him at such a cost, He will hold me fast.”

For my life He bled and died, Christ will hold me fast;

Justice has been satisfied; He willhold me fast.

Raised with Him to endless life, He will hold me fast

till our faith is turned to sight, when He comes at last!

—Ada Habersham & Matthew Merker, “He Will Hold Me Fast” (2013)

Here’s to a great Monday and lots of love always!

Press on,
