Good Morning All!
A good time was had by all at our annual Halloween gathering at David & Andy’s house. Lots of crazy get-ups this year! My grandson Josh got creative and went trick or treating as Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. He was the spittin’ image of the Colonel, for sure!
Happy Birthday to David’s Dad, Kirk, or as we affectionately call him “Grandpa Kirk” and happy birthday wishes also go to our friends Shelley & Kevin, who celebrated their birthdays yesterday and to my high school friend and member of our wedding party, Steve! Here’s to all of you!
I came across the following banner/poster in the office of my mom’s primary physician the other day and thought it was worthy of sharing with you. It’s entitled “Advice from a Bear” and goes like this:
“Live Large
Climb Beyond Your Limitations
When Life Gets Hairy, Grin and Bear It
Eat Well
Live With The Seasons
Take A Good Nap!
Look After Your Honey!”
There’s a lot of wisdom in the Bear’s list of suggestions, don’t you think?
Later today we gather in Lewiston, Idaho to celebrate the life of a remarkable man, Dwain McIntosh, or as we affectionately call him, “Papa Mac.” A life well lived, for sure. He leaves behind an awesome family, of which he played an integral part. We’ve been blessed by having Papa Mac with us during our mutual journey through life. We’ll miss him like crazy, for sure!
Papa Mac was a great student of business and was an astute daily reader of “The Wall Street Journal.” I had occasion to pick up a recent edition of it at his house the other day and was treated to an article entitled “Notes of the Notables…10 remarkable lists penned by renowned people,” one of which featured a list written by musician/songwriter Johnny Cash. Many of the things Johnny Cash mentioned on his list are things that were important to Papa Mac too. I hope you enjoy the list as much as I did…
“Things To Do Today!
- Not smoke
- Kiss June
- Not kiss anyone else
- Cough
- Pee
- Eat
- Not eat too much
- Worry
- Go See Mama
- Practice Piano
—“The Wall Street Journal,” Saturday/Sunday, October 26-27, 2019, pp. D1-D2.
Here is the word for the day:
Obstreperous: “rowdy, rambunctious, and noisy”…”stubborn, uncooperative, or difficult to control.”
Here is the fact for the day:
The first heart pacemaker had a battery that was wheeled around on a cart.
Here are some thoughts for the day:
“When I came to The Moody Blues, we were a rhythm and blues band. I was lousy at rhythm and blues—I think the rest of us were.”
—Justin Hayward, member of “The Moody Blues”
“I never went to fashion school. I didn’t know what a designer was. I knew I had something, but I didn’t know what it was. And it could just have easily been nothing.”
—Ralph Lauren, fashion designer
“I don’t design clothes, I design dreams.”
—Ralph Lauren, fashion designer
“One with the Father, Ancient of Days, through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty,
honor and blessing, glory and praise…to the King crowned with pow’r and authority!
And we are raised with Him,
death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered;
And we shall reign with Him, for He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!”
—Stuart Townsend & Keith Getty, “Resurrection Hymn” (2003)
Here’s to a great Friday and lots of love always!
Press on,
Papa ‘a (Dad, Uncle Mark, etc.)
